When I first stumbled upon disc golf more than a decade ago at Cranbury Park in Norwalk, CT, the prevailing brand among my peers was Innova. It wasn’t just a popular choice; it was ingrained in the local disc golf culture. As I delved deeper into the sport and began watching professional coverage on Youtube, I noticed that the same discs in my bag were also the preferred choice of my favorite players. While I knew that becoming a professional disc golfer was not a realistic goal for me, my passion for the sport only grew stronger with each round I played. And I cannot deny the significant role that Innova played in shaping my journey.
Writing has been a passion of mine since long before I even knew about disc golf. I have saved short stories from as far back as first grade (thankfully, my writing skills have improved since then). In college and the years that followed, I pursued a career in journalism, but my love for creative writing never waned. Even now, short stories and children’s books remain my favorite forms of expression. Naturally, as my love for disc golf grew, it found its way into my creative space.
Two years ago, I applied for the position of Creative Copywriter at Innova, seeing it as an opportunity to combine my two passions and use my writing skills to help grow the sport. This new series, “Riley’s Teebox,” is a platform for me to share my thoughts and insights in my own voice. Expect a range of topics, from my opinions on recent disc golf news to personal anecdotes from the course, quick tips, behind-the-scenes content from Innova, and anything else that catches my interest along the way. These posts may vary in length, from brief two-sentence musings to full-length essays. I look forward to seeing you on the tee! -Riley O’Neill
