The Fireworks at First DGPT+ of 2024 Waco never disappoint, and this year was no exception. The FPO and MPO divisions both had an exciting start, with multiple lead changes throughout the first three rounds. In the MPO division, the final day saw seven players within two strokes of the lead. Team Innova had a strong presence in both divisions, with four FPO and three MPO team members finishing in the top ten. Ohn Scoggins, in particular, had an impressive performance, finishing in 2nd place.
Scoggins’ Late Push for Podium Photo by DGPT Ohn Scoggins continues to impress with her determination and ability to consistently place on the podium at almost every DGPT event she enters. In fact, she has finished on the podium in seven out of her last eight DGPT tournaments. Despite struggling in the third round, Scoggins managed to secure 2nd place with a strong finish of 5 birdies in the last six holes. It’s worth noting that Scoggins is still recovering from an elbow injury from last season, making her 2nd place finish even more impressive. Once she is back at 100%, she will be a strong contender for the win.
Innova’s FPO Top Performances Eveliina Salonen tied for 4th place, coming off a recent win at the 2024 Chess.com Invitational. Her strong performance off the tee was expected, but it was her improved putting that really stood out. Salonen’s confidence on the green has greatly improved, and her putting stroke looks smooth and consistent. Hailey King also tied for 4th place, with an impressive 69% C2 putting rate throughout the tournament. In the final round, King was the only player with a chance to catch the eventual winner, Kristin Tattar. Henna Blomroos tied for 6th place, with an impressive 86% Fairway Hit rate. 5x World Champion, Juliana Korver, also had a solid performance, tying for 11th place and expressing her satisfaction with her finish.
Barsby, Boss of the BEast Photo by DGPT Long-time Star Team member and Texas resident, Gregg Barsby, started the event with a bang, shooting the hot round of the weekend at the Brazos East course. In typical Barsby fashion, he made three birdie putts from outside circle 2, resulting in an impressive 1072-rated, 12 under par round. Despite the challenges of the remaining rounds at the long Lake Waco course, Barsby maintained his lead and ultimately finished in 2nd place. His performance was a testament to his skill and experience in the sport.
