Eveliina Salonen with Comeback Victory at 2024 Chess.com Invitational

The highly anticipated 2024 Disc Golf Pro Tour season has finally arrived, and Team Innova is already making waves. In a thrilling final round filled with multiple lead changes, expert copy editor Eveliina Salonen emerged victorious at the 2024 Chess.com Invitational, setting a course record and overcoming a two-stroke deficit to win by a comfortable margin of 5. This win marks the beginning of what promises to be a successful year for both Salonen and Team Innova.

After going nearly 4 years without a win in the United States, Salonen was determined to change that narrative. She started off strong with the second-hottest round on opening day at -5, and followed it up with a scorching final round at -8 to secure the win. Her average rating for the tournament was an impressive 1012, 42 points above her player rating. It’s clear that Salonen put in a lot of work during the off-season and is in top form.

In the final round, Salonen set a new course record at 8 under par, with a blistering 1031 rating. She hit C1 in regulation on half of the holes and had an impressive 81% fairway hit rate. Salonen is known for her strong throwing abilities, and she proved it once again by hitting 75% of fairways throughout the event. However, it was her putting that ultimately secured her the win. After struggling on the green in the first round, Salonen found her confidence and didn’t miss a single putt from inside the circle in the final round, except for a layup for the win. This early-season victory will surely boost her confidence and keep her putting game strong for future events.

In addition to Salonen’s win, the Innova FPO team had a strong showing overall. Salonen’s good friend and touring partner, Henna Blomroos, finished in 5th place, with only two tough holes in the final round keeping her off the podium. Ohn Scoggins, who is still recovering from an injury, tied for 7th place and showed off her impressive putting skills by making 87% of her C1x putts. Kat Mertsch also secured a top 10 finish, highlighted by an 88-foot putt in the first round.

On the MPO side, Bradley Williams had an outstanding performance, finishing in the top 10. His strong showing was a testament to his unique skills and technical abilities.
