Recently, Carson Smith had the opportunity to throw a shot of a lifetime at the highly-rated Brent Hambrick Memorial DGC in Columbus, OH. With his perfectly-seasoned McPro Roc3 in hand, he confidently stepped up to the 371-foot, Hole 3, expecting a smooth turnover with a gentle landing. But what he got was even better – an almost magical right-to-left backhand that drifted cleanly into the bottom of the basket. As an expert in the sport, Carson knows the value of a good disc. He has been throwing McPro Roc3’s for over a year now, and has found that they start out straight with a little fade, but quickly beat into the perfect turnover disc. And for Carson, backhand turnovers are one of his favorite shots to throw. So to get an ace with his trusted disc, at his home course, on video, and surrounded by his friends, was truly an amazing moment. It’s no surprise that this ace was no fluke. Carson Smith is a skilled player, having won the College Disc Golf Matchplay National Championship in April of last year. He also took 2nd place at the 2023 PDGA Amateur World Championships in MA1, an event that is often a predictor of future success in the Pro division.
