Calvin Heimburg has been named the 2023 Ken Climo Player of the Year, a well-deserved honor after an exceptional season marked by unparalleled consistency. He spent more time as the number one player in the MPO division than any other player, and was a top contender at DGPT Elite, Silver, and PDGA Major events throughout the year. With three wins, 14 podium finishes, and 22 top tens, Heimburg only finished outside the top 10 once and never missed cash. His stoic and cool demeanor, which has endeared him to fans, remained unchanged as he dominated the competition.
Heimburg’s first win of the season came at the 2023 Las Vegas Challenge, where he showcased deadly precision off the tee and a solid performance in C2 putting. He followed this up with a commanding victory at the Innova Open at Texas States, winning by a margin of six strokes over second place. He continued his winning streak at the 2023 Jonesboro Open, determined to defend his title with back-to-back hot rounds.
While consistency was the key to Heimburg’s Player of the Year win, it was his exceptional shot-making in crucial moments that made his season so thrilling to watch. In the final round of the 2023 Ledgestone Open, he aced the 425-foot Hole 10 in a valiant effort to catch up to Cole Redalen. Though he ultimately did not win the event, his clutch performance in the face of pressure was impressive. He also had a standout performance at the Innova Open at Texas States, with his highest-rated tournament of the year and a memorable basketball putt for birdie on Hole 14 in the second round. However, it was his incredible stretch of play at the 2023 DGLO that solidified his spot as one of the top players in the game. In the final round, he hit two eagles with 250+ foot throw-ins, earning him a spot on the Sportscenter Top Moments list for the week.
In terms of statistics, Heimburg led in every throwing category among touring players in the United States. His three Tour victories make him the second winningest player of the year, behind only Gannon Buhr. Overall, Heimburg’s 2023 season was a display of skill, consistency, and clutch performances, solidifying his place as one of the top players in the sport.
